About
I’m Michael Buckley—programmer, author, student—plus human being. I am currently studying Computer Information Science at the university of Oregon, and expect to graduate in June 2006. I am employed by the Information Services department at the University of Oregon to help provide tech support to the campus.
I like to spend what little free time I have programming, writing and watching movies. I am proficient in C/C++, Java, PHP, and Python, among others, but I enjoy writing code in Objective-C most of all. The combination of dynamic typing and compiled code strikes what I believe to be the best compromise between flexibility and usability. As hardware gets better, the overhead for running interpreted code becomes less noticeable, but I find that compiled code currently provides the best user experience.
My favorite movies are intellectual movies which inspire deep reflection. However, I am also a big fan of the MST3K aesthetic. I’ve given up trying to reconcile the two. Because great movies are comparatively rare, and bad movies are abundant, I more often than not find myself watching cheap action movies, especially Joseph Lai flicks.
